WHAT IS MYLO?


Mylo is a monitoring companion robot, paired with a health sensor watch, designed to help people with dementia to retain their independence while living at home or with their families, easing the stress involved with caring and being cared for.




HOW MUCH DOES MYLO COST?


Mylo is available to rent from Homecare Medical from EUR 9 per day. There is a minimum rental period of 1 month.




​WHO FOUNDED MYLO?


Mylo was founded by Mrs. Candace Lafleur. To connect with her,click here




WHERE IS THE IDEA FROM?


Like most people, our founder Candace Lafleur never had much of an interest in healthcare until it became her lifeline. Diagnosed at the age of 32 with a rare autoimmune disease, Candace spent the next 3 years in and out of hospitals, culminating with a major cerebellar stroke as a result of her condition.

​Spending so much time on stroke units and hematology wards led to a new perspective on the potential for monitoring robotics as independence promoting aids - designed to solve common problems of communication, security, privacy and perceived loss of control. Mylo essentially started as a scribble on a napkin accompanying yet another hospital lunch of macaroni and cheese; suspiciously lacking in macaroni.

CAN I CUSTOMIZE MYLO?


Mylo is customized to his user's name and the name of family members and carers. However, we don't customize Mylo- you do! Your phone app for Mylo allows you to customize alerts, reminders, schedules and preferences directly.




​IS MYLO A BOY OR A GIRL?


Good question! Mylo is a non-gendered cat robot (what a mouthful!) - we call him a 'he' though his voice sounds like a 'she'. That's just the way it worked out!




DOES MYLO HAVE A PERSONALITY?


Yes! And he can be a bit cheeky!




​HOW DOES MYLO COMMUNICATE WITH PEOPLE?


You don't need to understand tech to use your Mylo - he is fully voice activated.




​WHAT LANGUAGE CAN MYLO SPEAK AND UNDERSTAND?


Mylo currently understands and speaks English, but we are working on a wide range of languages for the clever little guy!




​IS MYLO OPEN TO THIRD PARTY DEVELOPERS?

​DOES MYLO CONSTANTLY FOLLOW ME AROUND?


Only if you ask him to! Otherwise, Mylo treats his charging station as a 'home base' and will hang out there when he is not being used




​CAN ANYONE CONNECT TO MY MYLO?


You can only access and connect to a Mylo if your smartphone has been verified and linked during the installation process.




DOES MYLO RECONOGIZE ME?


Although Mylo likes to look for you, he is not at this stage using facial recognition functions.




CAN ANYONE OPERATE MYLO?


Pretty much! You don't need any tech savvy or know-how to operate a Mylo or his app




WHAT KIND OF FLOOR CAN MYLO MOVE ON?


Mylo can navigate across most surfaces but may have problems with uneven surfaces, slopes, long carpets and large floor joints




DOES IT HAVE TO BE A CAT? CAN IT BE A DOG?


Mylo is very much a cat - without the shedding though!




CAN MYLO BE USED AS A WALKING STICK IF I WANT TO WALK TO MY BATHROOM?


No, it is not recommended to lean on Mylo as he may fall over/ get damaged. However, tell him to turn on his torch and he can light your way there!




​CAN MYLO TALK?


Yes he can - he comes with a list of commands and conversational prompts that he replies to.




WHAT EXACTLY ARE ‘PREVENTATIVE MEASURES’ FOR ABUSE?


Mylo's presence with a vulnerable person will suggest use of surveillance, even when remote monitoring or video chat are not in use. We feel that Mylo's presence will discourage abusive behavior for that reason. Additionally, if a Mylo user feels threatened, they can initiate a video chat with their primary contact simply by voice command.




IS ‘REMOTE MONITORING’ ENABLED BY DEFAULT OR IS IT TRIGGERED BY ABNORMAL VITAL SIGNS OR SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY?


Remote monitoring is accessed by the primary contact.





Safety and Privacy

CAN MYLO FALL? IS IT SAFE AROUND CHILDREN AND PETS?


The majority of Mylo's weight lies at the lower half of his body meaning he has a relatively low center of gravity and therefore is quite stable. However he may fall over if a significant force is applied or if placed on a steep slope.




IS MY PERSONAL INFORMATION SECURE WITH MYLO?


We do our absolute best to ensure that personal information is secured to the highest standard under GDPR requirements.




WILL MY INFORMATION BE SHARED WITH ANY THIRD PARTIES?


We may share your personal data with members of our corporate group and our partners. This is to help us deliver our services to you. For further information please read our Privacy policy




WHEN IS MYLO'S CAMERA ON?


Mylo's camera is 'on' when the remote monitoring function is activated (you'll be alerted by a light around his ears), when a verbal command is given and when the video chat function is being used. The camera is not in use at other times.




​CAN ANYONE SEE ME THROUGH MYLO'S CAMERA?


No. Only those people, such as the designated primary contact, who know the specific account information can access Mylo's camera.




IS MYLO COMPLIANT WITH ANY ISO STANDARDS?


The Mylo team has consulted with the Law Society of Ireland and is pursuing compliance with ISO 9999:2016 standards. Mylo already has a CE marking, certifying that it is safe to use. Mylo also holds FCC certification and ROHS compliance.




DO I NEED TO GIVE MY CONSENT TO YOU TO HAVE ACCESS TO MYLO?


Informed consent is obtained during the Mylo installation process. At installation time, our team also explains that Mylo's service can be terminated at any time if the user or family determine that he is not a good fit.

WHERE DOES MYLO SHIP? DOES IT SHIP INTERNATIONALLY?


Mylo can be delivered and installed in Co. Louth, Meath and Co. Dublin in Ireland at the moment. We work with distributors internationally, and Mylo is soon becoming available in a variety of countries (and continents!) Please contact us if you live outside these counties and are interested in renting Mylo!




WILL PEOPLE COME TO SET EVERYTHING UP FOR ME?


Yes - an installation visit will be scheduled, and includes set up and initial training on the usage of your Mylo and his app




​CAN I CHOOSE A DELIVERY DATE AND TIME?


We deliver and install Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm. We don't want you to have to stay home all day watching out the window for our delivery van, so we will schedule your delivery within a 2 hour window, and give you a call if we are running late (or lost!)




HOW CAN I PAY FOR MYLO?


With your online order you will be required to pay the deposit and the first month's rental fee. After this initial payment, you can pay for your Mylo on a monthly basis by direct debit.




​HOW CAN I KEEP TRACK OF MY ORDER?


You will receive an email confirmation of your order, which will be followed by an information request so that we can set up your Mylo prior to delivery. Once your Mylo is configured you will be contacted to arrange a delivery date that suits you.




WHAT IS THE MIN/MAX RENTING PERIOD?


The minimum renting period for Mylo is 1 month, and there is no maximum renting period.

HOW CAN I RETURN MYLO?


After you have completed your subscription process you have 14 days to change your mind. If you are within the 14 day period and would like to cancel please email us at info@heymylo.com If you would like to end your subscription to Mylo please get in touch with us by phone or email. After we have received confirmation that you wish end your subscription, we will be in touch with you to arrange for someone from our team to pick Mylo up. Your access to the Mylo App and robot will be closed at the end of your subscription.

HOW FRAGILE IS MYLO?


Under normal usage and normal wear and tear you shouldn't experience a problem. However, should he take a tumble down the stairs or inadvertently go swimming you'll find he can be quite fragile - so please be gentle with your Mylo!

HOW DO I USE THE MYLO APP?


Our app is highly intuitive and easy to use - you will be given a run-through during your installation. However, we have videos available here to help!




​HOW TO CONNECT MYLO TO MY HOME WIFI NETWORK?


The three white dots on the top left of Mylo's screen lead you to a settings menu, where you can connect to your home WiFi, as well as adjust his speech volume and display brightness.




​HOW DO I MANUALLY CHARGE MYLO?

WHAT DO I DO IF MYLO FAILED TO CHARGE HIMSELF?

HOW TO TURN MYLO ON AND OFF?


Please don't! When Mylo loses his connection he sends out an SOS to both you and ourselves. In normal circumstances you shouldn't need to turn off your Mylo. However, if you need to reboot your Mylo, a video tutorial can be found here




WHERE DO I DOWNLOAD THE APP?


You can get the Mylo app from the app stores for IOS and Android. However, you will not be able to log into the app until you have been set up on our portal.




DO I NEED WIFI TO CONNECT TO THE APP?


Apart from WiFi, you can also use your mobile data to connect the app to your Mylo unit.




IS THE MYLO APP ACCESSIBILE TO BOTH IOS AND ANDROID USERS?


Yep! We don't discriminate against operating systems!




WHAT IS MYLO'S BATTERY LIFE?


Mylo has runtime (Full Charge) of 4 hours and over 10 hours on standby mode. However, Mylo charges himself, so you shouldn't have to worry too much about this!




HOW CAN I SEE MYLO'S BATTERY LEVEL?


This is displayed on your phone app, as well as on Mylo's screen.




MY MYLO IS FAULTY, WHO DO I CONTACT?


If you are experiencing a problem with your Mylo, please check out the support section on our website. Here, you will find tutorial videos to help you with the use of your Mylo. If your problem is a technical fault, you can also contact us directly through your app and a member of our team will be able to assist you. ​




HOW FAST CAN MYLO MOVE?


The max moving speed of Mylo is 0.8m/s. We didn't want him to be chasing anyone around their house!




WHY MYLO IS NOT RESPONDING WHEN I SAY, "YOU ARE SO CUTE" TO HIM?


Mylo has a limited amount of programmed responses. We are increasing his vocabulary and conversational skills constantly - and you will experience new conversations with Mylo after each update.

Mylo is not listening to and processing anything he hears within your home outside of his pre-programmed commands and responses. Although this does restrict his conversational ability (for now!) it helps to protect the privacy of the vulnerable people and families that Mylo lives with. You will be provided with a list of things that Mylo can understand, and this list is growing all the time!

HOW CAN I ADJUST MYLO’S VOLUME AND BRIGHTNESS?


The three white dots on the top left of Mylo's screen bring you into the settings area, where his volume and brightness can be adjusted.




WHY DOES MYLO KEEP TURNING AROUND WHEN I TRY TO MOVE HIM TO ANOTHER PLACE?


Mylo has sensitive shoulders - if you are brushing against his shoulders (even accidentally) he will turn to respond to you. If you are manually moving Mylo the best method is to place the palm of your hand on the middle of his back, and gently direct him to where you want him to go.




CAN MY OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS AND I LOG IN MYLO APP AT THE SAME TIME?


No, the Primary Contact has full control of the app, and secondary users cannot access the app while the Primary Contact is logged in.
